The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 3:55 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Gary Schellenberger, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Charlie Angus, Hon. Mauril Bélanger, Sylvie Boucher, Ed Fast, Tina Keeper, Maka Kotto, Luc Malo, Francis Scarpaleggia, Gary Schellenberger, Scott Simms and Chris Warkentin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Matthew Carnaghan, Analyst; Marion Ménard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Timmins Museum and National Exhibition Centre: Karen Bachmann, Director. Allen Sapp Gallery: Dean Bauche, Director. Department of Canadian Heritage: Lyn Elliot Sherwood, Executive Director, Heritage Group. Canadian Museums Association: John G. McAvity, Executive Director. Oak Hammock Marsh: Bob Laidler, General Manager. Société des musées québécois: Michel Perron, Executive Director. Canadian Museums Association: Calvin White, Chairman.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study related to Canadian Museums.
 

Lyn Elliot Sherwood made an opening statement and answered questions.

 

John G. McAvity, Calvin White, Karen Bachmann, Michel Perron and Dean Bauche made opening statements and, answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Maka Kotto gave notice of the following motion:

That, in the Committee’s opinion, the government implement as soon as possible the new museum policy discussed in 2005 and respect the work and consultations undertaken by the Department; that this new policy, once developed, be studied by the present Committee before its introduction in the House; and that the Chair report to the House

 

At 5:53 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
