The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in a televised session at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Gary Schellenberger, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Charlie Angus, Diane Bourgeois, Gord Brown, Ed Fast, Hon. Hedy Fry, Tina Keeper, Maka Kotto, Gary Schellenberger, Hon. Andy Scott and Chris Warkentin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marion Ménard, Analyst; Matthew Carnaghan, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Broadcasting Corporation: Robert Rabinovitch, President and Chief Executive Officer and Acting Chair of the Board of Directors; Richard Stursberg, Executive Vice-President, Television (English); Sylvain Lafrance, Executive Vice-President, French Services; Jennifer McGuire, Acting Vice-President, English Radio.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order108(2), the Committee resumed its full investigation of the role of a public broadcaster in the 21st century
 

Robert Robinovitch made a statement and, with Richard Stursberg, Sylvain Lafrance and Jennifer McGuire, answered questions.

 

At 10:49 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:54 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Hedy Fry moved, — That the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage require the CRTC Task Force on the Canadian Television Fund to conduct public hearings and only where necessary hold certain meetings In-Camera.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and the result of the vote was announced: YEAS: 5; NAYS: 5.

Whereupon, the Chair voted in the negative.

Accordingly, the motion was negatived.

 

At 11:02 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
