The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in a televised session at 9:03 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Gary Schellenberger, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Charlie Angus, Diane Bourgeois, Gord Brown, Ed Fast, Hon. Hedy Fry, Tina Keeper, Maka Kotto, Francis Scarpaleggia, Gary Schellenberger, Hon. Andy Scott and Chris Warkentin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marion Ménard, Analyst; Matthew Carnaghan, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission: Scott Hutton, Acting Associate Executive Director, Broadcasting; Doug Wilson, Director, Strategic Research and Economic Analysis; Peter Foster, Manager, Conventional Television Services for English Markets. Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages: Graham Fraser, Commissioner of Official Languages; Renald Dussault, Assistant Commissioner, Compliance Assurance Branch; Gérard Finn, Assistant Commissioner, Policy and Communications Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order108(2), the Committee resumed its full investigation of the role of a public broadcaster in the 21st century
 

Scott Hutton made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 10:03 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:12 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Graham Fraser made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

By unanimous consent, on motion of Charlie Angus, it was agreed, — That the Chair seek authorization from the House for the Committee to hold hearings in Winnipeg on Wednesday April 11, 2007 and, in Toronto on Friday, April 20, 2007 in relation to its study on the role of a public broadcaster in the 21st century.

 

At 11:02 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
