The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 11:01 a.m. this day, in Room 8-53, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, Bev Shipley, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Ruth Ellen Brosseau, Earl Dreeshen, Hon. Mark Eyking, Randy Hoback, Pierre Lemieux, LaVar Payne, Francine Raynault, Bev Shipley and Bob Zimmer.

Acting Members present: Malcolm Allen for Denis Blanchette and Alex Atamanenko for Denis Blanchette.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Khamla Heminthavong, Analyst.

Witnesses: Canadian Federation of Agriculture: Humphrey Banack, Vice-President. National Farmers Union: Terry Boehm, Chair, Seed and Trade Committee. Partners In Innovation: Mark Brock, Member; David Jones, Member. Cereals Canada: Cam Dahl, President. Keystone Agricultural Producers: Doug Chorney, President. Canada Organic Trade Association: Matthew Holmes, Executive Director; Dwayne Smith, Board Member. Barley Council of Canada : Brian Otto, Chairman. Alberta Barley Commission: Matt Sawyer, Chair. Canadian Canola Growers Association: Rick White, Chief Executive Officer.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, June 17, 2014, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-18, An Act to amend certain Acts relating to agriculture and agri-food.

Matthew Holmes made a statement.

At 11:05 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:12 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Dwayne Smith, Rick White, Mark Brock, David Jones and Terry Boehm, by videoconference from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, made statements.

The witnesses answered questions.

At 12:12 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:15 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Doug Chorney, by videoconference from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Matt Sawyer, by videoconference from Calgary, Alberta, Brian Otto, Humphrey Banack and Cam Dahl made statements and answered questions.

At 1:12 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
