The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Norman Doyle, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Omar Alghabra, Dave Batters, Norman Doyle, Meili Faille, Nina Grewal, Hon. Jim Karygiannis, Ed Komarnicki, Bill Siksay and Hon. Andrew Telegdi.

 

Acting Members present: Marc Lemay for Raymond Gravel and Joe Preston for Barry Devolin.

 

Other Members present: Sukh Dhaliwal.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Penny Becklumb, Analyst; Tara Gray, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Diane Finley, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration.

 

Witnesses: Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Richard Fadden, Deputy Minister; Wayne Ganim, Chief Financial Officer and Director General, Finance Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 1, 2007, the Committee resumed its study of Loss of Canadian Citizenship for the years 1947, 1977 and 2007.
 

The Minister made a statement and answered questions.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2007-2008: Votes 1, 5 and 10 under CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION referred to the Committee on Tuesday, February 27, 2007.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with Richard Fadden, answered questions.

 

At 5:33 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:34 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

The Chair called Vote 1 - Operating expenjditures under the Department of Citizenship and Immigration.

 

It was agreed, — That Vote 1, less the amount of $103,398,250 granted in Interim Supply, be carried.

 

The Chair called Vote 5 - Grants and contributions under the Department of Citizenship and Immigration.

 

It was agreed, — That Vote 5, less the amount of $305,093,333.33 granted in Interim Supply, be carried .

 

The Chair called Vote 10 - Program expenditures under the the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada.

 

It was agreed, — That Vote 10, less the amount of $25,046,500 granted in Interim Supply, be carried.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair report Vote 1, 5 and 10, less the amounts voted in Interim Supply, under CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION CANADA to the House.

 

At 5:34 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
