Thursday, October 18, 2001

The Special Committee on non-medical use of drugs met at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Paddy Torsney, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: André Bachand, Bernard Bigras, Libby Davies, Derek Lee, Réal Ménard and Paddy Torsney.

Acting Members present: Hélène Scherrer for Carole-Marie Allard; Robert Bertrand for Jacques Saada; Kevin Sorenson for Carol Skelton.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Marilyn Pilon, researcher.

Witnesses: From the Senate: The Hon. Pierre Claude Nolin, Chair, Special Committee on Illegal Drugs; Dr. Daniel Sansfaçon, Director of Research, Special Committee on Illegal Drugs; Blair Armitage, Clerk, Special Committee on Illegal Drugs.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the House of Commons on Thursday, May 17, 2001, consideration of the factors underlying or relating to the non-medical use of drugs.

Senator Nolin made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:21 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
