Meeting No. 11

Thursday, May 3, 2001

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, David Pratt, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Peter Goldring, John O'Reilly, Janko Perić, David Pratt, Carmen Provenzano, Peter Stoffer, Bob Wood.

Acting Members present: Leon Benoit for Art Hanger, Ivan Grose for Bryon Wilfert, Paul Szabo for Judi Longfield.

Associate Member present: Rob Anders.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner, Michel Rossignol, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Department of National Defence: Gen Maurice Baril, Chief of the Defence Staff; Cmdre Daniel G. McNeil, Director Force Planning and Program Coordination; Col W.J. Natynczyk, Chief of Staff J3 International; CWO J.J.L.M. Dessureault, Canadian Forces - Chief Warrant Officer.

The Committee resumed consideration of its study on the state of readiness of the Canadian Forces.

General Maurice Baril made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:37 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
