MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 15

Tuesday, June 1st, 1999

The Sub-Committee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in camera at 1:07 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Carolyn Bennett, presiding.

Member(s) of the Sub-Committee present: Carolyn Bennett, Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral, Deborah Grey, Joe Jordan, Wendy Lill, Judi Longfield and The Hon. Andy Scott.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Sandra Harder and Bill Young, Research Officers.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(c) study of matters relating to the proposing, promoting, monitoring and assessing of initiatives aimed at the integration and equality of disabled persons in all sectors of Canadian Society

The Committee proceeded to consider its draft report.

Mrs. Longfield moved,

That, the draft report (as amended) be adopted as the First Report of the Sub-Committee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities.

That, the Chair be authorized to make changes following today's comments and also to make such editorial and typographical changes as necessary without changing the substance of the Report.

That, the Chair be authorized to present the Report to the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities.

That, the Committee requests that the Government table a comprehensive response within 45 days after Parliament resumes following its adjournment and/or prorogation.

That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(1)(a), the Committee authorises the printing of the dissenting opinion of the Bloc québécois as an appendix to this report immediately after the signature of the Chair, that the dissenting opinion be limited to not more than two pages; and that the dissenting opinion be delivered to the Clerk of the Committee not later than 48 hours following the adoption of the report.

After debate the question being put on the motion it was adopted.

At 1:46 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
