Thursday, May 27, 1999

The Sub-Committee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:38 p.m. this day, in Room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Carolyn Bennett, presiding.

Member(s) of the Sub-Committee present: Carolyn Bennett, Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral, Deborah Grey, Wendy Lill and Judi Longfield.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Sandra Harder and Bill Young, Research Officers.

Appearing: From the Department of Human Resources Development Canada: The Hon. Ethel Blondin-Andrew, Secretary of State (Children and Youth).

Witness(es): From the Department of Human Resources Development Canada: Susan Scotti, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Human Resources Investment Branch; Deborah Tunis, Director, Social Policy Development, Strategic Policy; Mary Glen, Director General, Social Development Directorate, Human Resources Investment Branch, Deborah Price, Special Advisor Aboriginal, HRDC Relations Aboriginal Relations Office.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(c) study of matters relating to the proposing, promoting, monitoring and assessing of initiatives aimed at the integration and equality of disabled persons in all sectors of Canadian Society.

The Hon. Ethel Blondin-Andrew made a statement and, with the witnesses, answered questions.

At 4:44 the sitting was suspended.

At 4:49 the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee commenced consideration of its draft report.

At 5:19 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
