With regard to Veterans Affairs Canada and psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy: (a) has Veterans Affairs Canada reviewed or analyzed the decision of Australia's Department of Veterans' Affairs to fund MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for post-traumatic stress disorder and psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy for treatment-resistant depression, delivered by psychiatrists authorized by Australia's Therapeutic Goods Administration, and, if so, what are the details of the analysis or review, including (i) the date, (ii) who reviewed or analyzed it, (iii) the response or conclusions, (iv) whether any documents were produced in response and, if so, what are the details of each, including the dates and titles; (b) since January 1, 2023, has Veterans Affairs Canada communicated with Australia's Department of Veterans' Affairs regarding psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy, and, if so, what are the details of each communication, including (i) the date, (ii) the titles of the individuals involved, (iii) the type of communication, (iv) a summary of the contents; (c) what specific evidentiary threshold must psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy meet before Veterans Affairs Canada adds it to its benefit grids or drug formulary, and who is responsible for determining when that threshold has been met; (d) since January 1, 2022, how many requests for coverage of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy has Veterans Affairs Canada received, broken down by year, substance (MDMA, psilocybin or ketamine) and outcome; (e) of the requests in (d), how many came from veterans who held a Health Canada Special Access Program authorization, and what was the outcome of those requests; (f) for each fiscal year since 2020-21, what was the total expenditure on (i) treatment benefits for veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder, (ii) disability benefits for post-traumatic stress disorder; (g) has Veterans Affairs Canada done any cost, cost-avoidance or cost-effectiveness analysis of funding psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy, and, if so, what are the details, including the date, methodology, and findings; (h) since January 1, 2023, how much has Veterans Affairs Canada spent on psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy research, broken down by project; (i) does Veterans Affairs Canada plan to create a funding pathway similar to their Australian counterpart, and if so, what is the timeline; and (j) if the answer to (i) is no, why not? |
