Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Monday, May 30, 2022, the committee commenced its study of micro-cultivation of cannabis and cultivation of hemp.

David Hurford, George Smitherman and Timothy Deighton made statements and, with Jacqueline Menezes, answered questions.

At 12:02 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:08 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Devin Dubois and Keith Jones made statements and, with Ted Haney, answered questions.

At 12:53 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:57 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Monday, May 30, 2022, the committee resumed its study of global food insecurity.

The committee proceeded to give drafting instructions to the analysts for a draft letter.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of Global Food Insecurity, the Chair send a letter to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food outlining the Committee’s observations and recommendations thus far, and that the letter be published on the Committee’s website.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of Global Food Insecurity, the analysts and the Clerk, in consultation with the Chair, prepare a news release for publication on the committee’s website and for distribution once the letter is sent to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-food.

It was agreed, — That two letters, the first in relation to the micro-cultivation of cannabis and the second in relation to the cultivation of hemp, be drafted and sent to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-food and the Minister of Health.

At 1:08 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
