Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(h)(vii) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, the Committee commenced its study of the ethical aspects of artificial intelligence and algorithms.

Motion

Charlie Angus moved, — That the Committee begin a study on the ethical aspects of artificial intelligence and algorithms.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

Ben Wagner, by videoconference from Vienna, Austria, and Yoshua Bengio, by videoconference from Montréal, Quebec, made statements and answered questions.

At 5:08 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:10 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

At 5:44 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
