The Standing Committee on Natural Resources met at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 268, The Valour Building, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Leon Benoit, Kelly Block, Guy Caron, Joan Crockatt, Ryan Leef, Pat Perkins, Hon. Geoff Regan and Brad Trost.

 

Acting Members present: Robert Aubin for Linda Duncan and John Rafferty for Chris Charlton.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mohamed Zakzouk, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Maritime Lumber Bureau: Diana Blenkhorn, President and Chief Executive Officer. Assembly of First Nations' Chiefs in New Brunswick Inc.: Cecelia Brooks, Research Director, Indigenous Knowledge; Luke Demarsh, Research Co-ordinator. J.D. Irving, Limited: James D. Irving, Co-Chief Executive Officer; Blake Brunsdon, Chief Forester. Medway Community Forest Co-op: William Martin, Chair.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, January 29, 2015, the Committee resumed its study of the renewal of Canada’s forest industry.
 

Cecelia Brooks, Diana Blenkhorn, James D. Irving and William Martin made statements and, with Luke Demarsh and Blake Brunsdon, answered questions.

 

At 5:06 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:09 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, once Bill C-46, An Act to amend the National Energy Board Act and the Canada Oil and Gas Operations Act, is referred to the Committee, the Committee commence its study, and that the Committee invite officials from Natural Resources Canada, officials from the National Energy Board and other witnesses to appear before it.

 

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the potential study of Bill C-46, members of the Committee submit to the Clerk of the Committee, by Friday, March 6, 2015 at 12:00 p.m., their prioritized lists of witnesses.

 

At 5:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
