The Standing Committee on Natural Resources met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 268, The Valour Building, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Leon Benoit, Kelly Block, Joan Crockatt, Linda Duncan, Ryan Leef, Pat Perkins, Hon. Geoff Regan and Brad Trost.

 

Acting Members present: Robert Aubin for Guy Caron and John Rafferty for Chris Charlton.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mohamed Zakzouk, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As an individual: Ying Hei Chui, Professor and Director, Wood Science and Tech Centre, University of New Brunswick. Canadian Association of Forest Owners: Christopher Lee, Managing Director. Forestry Innovation Investment Ltd.: Ken Baker, Chief Executive Officer. BC First Nations Forestry Council: Keith Atkinson, Chief Executive Officer.

 

Linda Duncan gave notice of the following motion:

That the Committee invite the Honourable Greg Rickford, Minister of Natural Resources, to appear before the Committee regarding the Supplementary Estimates (C) 2014-15 before March 13, 2015 and that this meeting be televised.

 

Linda Duncan gave notice of the following motion:

That the National Energy Board (NEB) be convened before the Standing Committee on Natural Resources for two hours prior to March 31, 2015 to explain: 1) why the deadlines to apply for the Financial Aid Program (February 23, 2015) and for the status of Intervener or Commentator (March 3, 2015) in the NEB Hearing Process for TransCanada’s Energy-East Project were established despite the fact the TransCanada Energy-East Project route does not appear to be final; 2) what measures will be implemented by the National Energy Board regarding who can participate in the event TransCanada modifies its project; and 3) how will the National Energy Board act to ensure that Canadians have access in both languages to all the information provided by TransCanada as it relates to the Energy-East project.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, January 29, 2015, the Committee resumed its study of the renewal of Canada’s forest industry.
 

Ken Baker, Keith Atkinson, by videoconference from Vancouver, British Columbia, Ying Hei Chui and Christopher Lee made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:02 p.m., Geoff Regan took the Chair.

 

At 5:04 p.m., Leon Benoit took the Chair.

 

At 5:18 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
