The Standing Committee on Natural Resources met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 268, The Valour Building, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Leon Benoit, Kelly Block, Guy Caron, Joan Crockatt, Linda Duncan, Ryan Leef, Pat Perkins and Brad Trost.

 

Acting Members present: John Rafferty for Chris Charlton and Hon. Judy Sgro for Hon. Geoff Regan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages, Analyst; Mohamed Zakzouk, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Natural Resources: Glenn Mason, Assistant Deputy Minister, Canadian Forest Service; Robert Jones, Director, Industry and Trade Division, Policy, Economics and Industry Branch, Canadian Forest Service.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the Committee proceeded to the election of the first Vice-Chair.
 

On motion of Brad Trost, it was agreed, — That Guy Caron be elected First Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, November 27, 2014, the Committee resumed its study on the Canadian Forestry Industry.
 

Glenn Mason made a statement and, with Robert Jones, answered questions.

 

At 5:00 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:03 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the meetings of Tuesday, February 3 and Thursday, February 5, 2015, be cancelled.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and by taking into account the evidence and documentation received during the meetings regarding the Canadian forestry industry, the Committee undertake a study of the renewal of Canada’s forest industry.

 

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of the renewal of Canada’s forest industry and its meetings on the sector and market diversification, members of the Committee submit to the Clerk of the Committee, by Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 5:00 p.m., their prioritized lists of witnesses.

 

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of the renewal of Canada’s forest industry and its meetings on the regional economic development, members of the Committee submit to the Clerk of the Committee, by Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 5:00 p.m., their prioritized lists of witnesses.

 

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of the renewal of Canada’s forest industry and its meetings on strategic innovation, members of the Committee submit to the Clerk of the Committee, by Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 5:00 p.m., their prioritized lists of witnesses.

 

At 5:39 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
