The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Mike Wallace, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dan Albas, Scott Armstrong, Françoise Boivin, Robert Goguen, Pierre Jacob, Wayne Marston, Kyle Seeback, Mike Wallace and David Wilks.

 

Acting Members present: Malcolm Allen for Wayne Marston, Blaine Calkins for Brent Rathgeber, Matthew Dubé for Pierre Jacob, Alain Giguère for Hoang Mai and Massimo Pacetti for Hon. Irwin Cotler.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Philippe Méla, Legislative Clerk; David-Andrés Novoa, Legislative Clerk. Library of Parliament: Cynthia Kirkby, Analyst; Dominique Valiquet, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Medical Association: Anna Reid, President; Maura Ricketts, Director, Office of Public Health. As an individual: Samuel Jeffrey Gutman, President, Rockdoc Consulting. Department of Justice: Hal Pruden, Counsel, Criminal Law Policy Section.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, November 28, 2012, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill S-209, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (prize fights).
 

Anna Reid and Samuel Jeffrey Gutman, by videoconference from Vancouver, British Columbia, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:35 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:37 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

The Committee commenced its clause-by-clause study of the Bill.

 

The Chair called Clause 1.

 

Clause 1 carried.

 

The Title carried.

 

The Bill carried.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair report the Bill to the House.

 

At 4:40 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
