The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:29 p.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Mike Wallace, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dan Albas, Françoise Boivin, Robert Goguen, Pierre Jacob, Hoang Mai, Kyle Seeback, Mike Wallace and David Wilks.

 

Acting Members present: Jay Aspin for Scott Armstrong, Matthew Dubé for Wayne Marston, Cathy McLeod for Brent Rathgeber and Hon. Geoff Regan for Hon. Irwin Cotler.

 

Associate Members present: Ryan Leef.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Cynthia Kirkby, Analyst; Dominique Valiquet, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Massimo Pacetti, M.P., Saint-Léonard—Saint-Michel. Hon. Bob Runciman, Senator. Zuffa Canada Productions, LLC: Tom Wright, Director of UFC Operations for Canada, Australia and New Zealand, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, November 28, 2012, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill S-209, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (prize fights).
 

The Hon. Bob Runciman and Massimo Pacetti made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 3:58 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:00 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Tom Wright made a statement and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of Bill C-394, An Act to amend the Criminal Code and the National Defence Act (criminal organization recruitment), the proposed budget in the amount of $3,400, be adopted.

 

At 4:50 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
