The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 228, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Marie-Claude Morin, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dan Albas, Stella Ambler, Niki Ashton, Joyce Bateman, Anne-Marie Day, Mylène Freeman, Roxanne James, Marie-Claude Morin, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Hon. Judy Sgro and Susan Truppe.

 

Acting Members present: Rob Clarke for Wai Young.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Havi Echenberg, Analyst; Laura Munn-Rivard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Representative for Children and Youth : Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond, Representative, British Columbia. Actua: Jennifer Flanagan, President and Chief Executive Officer. McGill University: Claudia Mitchell, James McGill Professor, Department of Integrated Studies in Education. Native Youth Sexual Health Network: Jessica Danforth, Executive Director.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Susan Truppe moved, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Dan Albas, Stella Ambler, Joyce Bateman, Rob Clarke, Roxanne James, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Susan Truppe — 7; NAYS: Niki Ashton, Anne-Marie Day, Mylène Freeman, Judy Sgro — 4.

 

At 3:33 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:34 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure meet on Monday, June 4, 2012 to discuss future Committee business.

 

At 3:51 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:54 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of improving economic prospects for Canadian girls.
 

Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond, by videoconference from Victoria, British Columbia, and Jennifer Flanagan made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:41 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:45 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Claudia Mitchell, by videoconference from Montréal, Québec, and Jessica Danforth, by teleconference from Oneida, Wisconsin, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
