The Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs met at 8:52 a.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Peter Stoffer, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Eve Adams, Sean Casey, Sylvain Chicoine, Bryan Hayes, Wladyslaw Lizon, Ben Lobb, Irene Mathyssen, Erin O'Toole, Peter Stoffer and Bob Zimmer.

 

Acting Members present: Annick Papillon for Manon Perreault.

 

Other Members present: Elizabeth May.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As an individual: Pascal Lacoste.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, the Committee resumed its study of depleted uranium and Canadian veterans.
 

Pascal Lacoste made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 9:58 a.m., Sean Casey took the Chair.

 

At 10:11 a.m., Peter Stoffer took the Chair.

 

At 10:12 a.m., by unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 10:22 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:24 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee travel to Washington D.C. on April 15-16, 2013, to meet with executives from U.S. Army medical and health research bodies, and with executives from Veteran organizations to discuss issues of shared importance including Government and NGO services, benefits, and programming available to Veterans. The trip would also include a tour of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C., the U.S. Army's flagship medical center.

Meetings would be scheduled, based on availability, with the following persons/organizations:

• Barbara Van Dahlen, Founder and President, Give an Hour
• Captain (N) Todd Veazie, Executive Director, Joining Forces
• Chris Marvin, Managing Director, Got Your 6 campaign; Director, Civilian-Military Partnerships, ServiceNation
• Colonel (ret’d) Charles Hoge, U.S. Army Office of the Surgeon General Neuropsychiatry Research Consultant
• Colonel Carl Castro, Director of Military Operations, Medicine Research Program, U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command
• Dr. Jonathan Woodson, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs
• Rosye Cloud, Director of Policy for Veterans, Wounded Warriors and Military Families, The White House.

 

At 10:26 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
