The Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs met at 8:47 a.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the President, Greg Kerr, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Eve Adams, Rob Anders, Sean Casey, Joe Daniel, Réjean Genest, Greg Kerr, Wladyslaw Lizon, Ben Lobb, Irene Mathyssen, Annick Papillon, Peter Stoffer and Brian Storseth.

 

Acting Members present: Dan Albas for Eve Adams and Kelly Block for Eve Adams.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Royal Canadian Legion: Brad White, Dominion Secretary, Dominion Command; Steven Clark, Director of Administration, Director of the National Remembrance Day Celebration. Canadian War Museum: Yasmine Mingay, Manager, Communications; James Whitham, Acting Director General and Vice-President, Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, September 29, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of commemorative celebrations in the twenty-first century.
 

Brad White and Steven Clark made statements and answered questions.

 

At 9:38 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:41 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the Committee meeting scheduled for October 18, 2011, be cancelled, in order to allow members to attend a ceremony in honour of Canadian War Veterans.

 

The Committee resumed its study of commemorative celebrations in the twenty-first century.

 

James Whitham and Yasmine Mingay made statements and answered questions.

 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the Committee set aside a block of two hours, on a day and time normally reserved for Committee meetings, to visit the Canadian War Museum.

 

At 10:38 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
