The Standing Committee on Health met by videoconference at 9:03 a.m. this day, in Room 853, 131 Queen St., the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Patrick Brown, Colin Carrie, Patricia Davidson, Nicolas Dufour, Kirsty Duncan, Luc Malo, Cathy McLeod, Joyce Murray, Joy Smith, Tim Uppal and Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Anita Neville for Hon. Carolyn Bennett.

 

Associate Members present: Pat Martin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marie Chia, Analyst; Karin Phillips, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Association for HIV Research: Bill Cameron, President. Public Health Agency of Canada: Rainer Engelhardt, Assistant Deputy Minister, Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Branch; Steven Sternthal, Head, Canadian HIV Vaccine Initiative Secretariat, Director, Office of HIV Vaccines. PnuVax Inc.: Donald Gerson, President and Chief Executive Officer. Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute Florida: Rafick-Pierre Sekaly, Co-Director and Scientific Director.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) [and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, the Committee commenced its study on the cancellation of the HIV Vaccine Manufacturing Facility under Canadian HIV Vaccine Initiative.
 

Bill Cameron, Donald Gerson, Rainer Engelhardt and Rafick-Pierre Sekaly, by videoconference from Port St.Lucie, Florida, made statements and, with the other witness, answered questions.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed operational budget in the amount of $17, 900 for the Committee's study on the cancellation of the HIV vaccine manufacturing facility under the Canadian HIV Vaccine Initiative be adopted.

 

At 10:57 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
