The Subcommittee on Food Safety of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met in a televised session at 4:04 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, André Bellavance, presiding.

Members of the Subcommittee present: Malcolm Allen, David Anderson, André Bellavance, Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Hon. Wayne Easter, Larry Miller and Bev Shipley.

Acting Members present: Raymonde Folco for Hon. Wayne Easter.

Other Members present: Randy Hoback and Brian Storseth.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Analyst ; Sonya Norris, Analyst.

Witnesses: Canadian Supply Chain Food Safety Coalition: Albert Chambers, Executive Director. Canadian Health Coalition: Brewster Kneen, Representative. Canadian Federation of Agriculture: Bette Jean Crews, President, Ontario Federation of Agriculture. Canadian Food Inspection Agency: Stephen Baker, Vice-President, Finance; Paul Mayers, Associate Vice-President, Programs; Cameron Prince, Vice-President, Operations; Carole Swan, President; Brian Evans, Executive Vice-President. Canadian Trucking Alliance: John Gyoroky, Corporate Dock Manager, Member, Canadian Trucking Alliance; Ron Lennox, Vice-President, Trade and Security.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Order of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food made Thursday, February 12, 2009 and the motion adopted by the Subcommittee on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, the Subcommittee resumed its study of food safety.

Albert Chambers and Brewster Kneen made statements and answered questions.

At 4:57 p.m., Larry Miller took the Chair.

At 5:27 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:35 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Bette Jean Crews and Ron Lennox made statements and, with John Gyoroky, answered questions.

At 6:37 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 7:06 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Carole Swan and Brian Evans made statements and, with Cameron Prince, Paul Mayers and Stephen Baker, answered questions.

Carolyn Bennett moved, — That the Subcommittee continue to question the witnesses.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 4; NAYS: 2.

At 9:11 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:15 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.

At 9:31 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
