The Standing Committee on Natural Resources met in a televised session at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, David Anderson, Hon. Navdeep Bains, Leon Benoit, France Bonsant, Paule Brunelle, Hon. Geoff Regan, Devinder Shory and Brad Trost.

 

Acting Members present: Blaine Calkins for Russ Hiebert, Cheryl Gallant for Devinder Shory, Bruce Hyer for Nathan Cullen, Luc Malo for France Bonsant and Francis Scarpaleggia for Alan Tonks.

 

Associate Members present: Cheryl Gallant.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages, Analyst; Mohamed Zakzouk, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: MDS Nordion: Steve West, President; Jill Chitra, Vice-President, Strategic Technologies; John Campion, Legal Counsel, Partner, Fasken Martineau Law Firm. Université Laval: Michel Duguay, Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. As an individual: John Waddington, Nuclear Safety Consultant.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of the Atomic Energy Canada Limited facility at Chalk River and the status of the production of medical isotopes.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:36 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 12, 2009, the Committee resumed its study on the contribution of integrated approaches for providing energy services in Canadian communities.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the report be entitled: “Combining our Energies: Integrated Energy Systems for Canadian Communities”.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and analysts be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair present the report to the House.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee append to its report a dissenting opinion from the Bloc Québécois provided that it is no more than 4 pages in length and submitted electronically, in both official languages, to the Clerk of the Committee, no later than 9:00 a.m., on Tuesday, June 16, 2009.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

 

At 5:07 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
