The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in a televised session at 3:28 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, the Hon. Shawn Murphy, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: David Christopherson, Brian Fitzpatrick, Jean-Yves Laforest, Mike Lake, Hon. Shawn Murphy, Pierre Poilievre, Pablo Rodriguez, Jean-Yves Roy, Hon. Judy Sgro, David Sweet, John G. Williams and Borys Wrzesnewskyj.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Rob R. Walsh; Gregory Tardi. Library of Parliament: Lydia Scratch; Alex Smith.

 

Witnesses: As an individual: Rosalie Burton, former Director general of Human Resources, Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Barbara George; Mike Frizzell, Strategic and Operational Support, National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre; Doug Lang, Winnipeg; Fraser Macaulay; Denise Revine; Bruce Rogerson, Technical Operations. As individuals: Keith Estabrooks; Normand Sirois; Paul Roy.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(g), the Committee resumed consideration of Chapter 9, Pension and Insurance Administration - Royal Canadian Mounted Police of the November 2006 Report of the Auditor General of Canada.
 

The Chair made a statement regarding testimonies before parliamentary Committees and privileges of the House.

 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the Chair write to RCMP Commissioner Busson to convey the concerns of the Committee as outlined in the statement made by the Chair and that she expressly assure this Committee by return letter that the testimony of any individual before this Committee, whether or not an employee of the RCMP, will not be used in any proceedings or action against the individual.

 

On motion of David Christopherson, it was agreed, — That the sitting be extended untill 6:30 p.m. this day.

 

The witnesses were sworn in.

 

Barbara George, Bruce Rogerson, Rosalie Burton, Paul Roy, Keith Estabrooks and Normand Sirois made opening statements and answered questions.

 

Denise Revine answered questions.

 

At 5:09 p.m., Mr. Fitzpatrick took the Chair.

At 5:12 p.m., Mr. Murphy resumed on the Chair.

 

Mr. Williams gave notice of the following motion: — That the Public Accounts Committee ask the Library of Parliament to engage a forensic auditor to try to present all the information received, and e-mails, and timelines and so on in some kind of understandable format so we can actually understand and have some sense as to what is all going on.

 

At 6:43 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
