The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, the Hon. Shawn Murphy, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: David Christopherson, Brian Fitzpatrick, Jean-Yves Laforest, Mike Lake, Hon. Shawn Murphy, Pierre Poilievre, Pablo Rodriguez, Hon. Judy Sgro, David Sweet, John Williams and Borys Wrzesnewskyj.

 

Acting Members present: Marcel Lussier for Jean-Yves Roy.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lydia Scratch, Analyst; Alex Smith, Analyst. House of Commons: Gregory Tardi, Senior Parliamentary Counsel (Legal).

 

Witnesses: Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Beverley Busson, Commissioner; Darrell LaFosse, Assistant Commissioner, Community, Contract and Aboriginal Policing Services. As an individual: Garry Loeppky.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(g), the Committee resumed consideration of Chapter 9, Pension and Insurance Administration - Royal Canadian Mounted Police of the November 2006 Report of the Auditor General of Canada.
 

On motion of John Williams, it was agreed, — That Superintendent Macaulay and Staff Sergeant Frizzell do prepare a presentation to be given to the Committee, in which they will tell what their concerns are and, that some Committee time be set aside to hear them when ever they are ready.

 

Beverley Busson, Darrell LaFosse and Garry Loeppky made opening statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:38 p.m., Mr. Fitzpatrick took the Chair.

At 4:43 p.m., Mr. Murphy resumed on the Chair.

 

On motion of David Sweet, it was agreed, — That a copy of the executive summary from the Ottawa Police on the investigation which is about 47 pages long be made available to this Committee forthwith, and, that it be translated and distributed to members of the Committee.

 

On motion of Borys Wrzesnewskyj, it was agreed, — That the following individuals do appear before this Committee on Monday, April 30, 2007:

A/Commissionner Bruce Rogerson

C/Superintendent Doug Lang.

 

At 5:38 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
