The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 8:05 a.m. this day, in the Salon C+ D - Main Floor, Delta St. John's Hotel, St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Jean-Claude D'Amours, Yves Lessard and Hon. Geoff Regan.

 

Acting Members present: Denise Savoie for Tony Martin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Kevin Kerr, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Federation of Independent Business: Bradley George, Director, Provincial Affairs, Newfoundland and Labrador. Newfoundland & Labrador Workplace/Workforce Learning Committee and Literacy Newfoundland and Labrador: Kimberley Gillard, Executive Director; Ed Brown, Director. National Association of Career Colleges: James Loder, Director and Board Member, Newfoundland and Labrador. Society of Rural Physicians of Canada: Michael Jong, President; John Wootton, Editor, Canadian Journal of Rural Medicine; James Rourke, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Health Sciences Centre, Memorial University of Newfoundland.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, May 11, 2006, the Committee resumed its study of Employability in Canada.
 

Michael Jong, Bradley George, Ed Brown, Kimberley Gillard and James Loder made statements and answered questions.

 

At 9:43 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
