The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in a televised session at 11:09 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Bonnie Brown, Patrick Brown, Hon. Denis Coderre, Jean-Claude D'Amours, Yves Lessard, Hon. Geoff Regan, Brian Storseth and Lynne Yelich.

 

Acting Members present: Libby Davies for Tony Martin, Ed Fast for Mike Lake and Carole Lavallée for France Bonsant.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Chantal Collin, Analyst; Kevin Kerr, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour.

 

Witnesses: Department of Human Resources and Social Development: Munir Sheikh, Deputy Minister of Labour and Associate Deputy Minister of Human Resources and Social Development; Elizabeth McPherson, Director General, Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(7), the Committee commenced consideration of the Report on Plans and Priorities 2006-2007 of HUMAN RESOURCES AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT CANADA.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 12:40 p.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That Shirley Soleil be the recipient of the 2006-2007 edition of the Centennial Flame Research Award.

 

At 12:52 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
