The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Rob Merrifield, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dave Batters, Bonnie Brown, Patrick Brown, Patricia Davidson, Steven John Fletcher, Christiane Gagnon, Susan Kadis, Luc Malo, Rob Merrifield and Penny Priddy.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Raymond Simard for Hon. Carolyn Bennett.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Odette Madore, Analyst; Sonya Norris, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Veterans Affairs: Verna Bruce, Associate Deputy Minister and Chair of the Federal Healthcare Partnership. Department of Health: Ian Potter, Assistant Deputy Minister, First Nations and Inuit Health Branch; Abby Hoffman, Executive Coordinator and Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Pharmaceuticals Management Strategies, Health Policy Branch; Scott Doidge, Manager, Pharmacy Group, Non-Insured Health Benefits Directorate, First Nations and Inuit Health Branch. Department of National Defence: Dave Cecillon, Pharmacy Policy and Standards.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, December 12, 2006, the Committee resumed its study on Prescription Drugs (Common Drug Review).
 

Verna Bruce, Ian Potter and LCol Dave Cecillon made statements and, with Abby Hoffman, answered questions.

 
At 5:02 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
 

At 5:07 p.m., the Committee resumed sitting in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That additional witnesses be invited to appear on Bill C-42, An Act to amend the Quarantine Act, the afternoon of Wednesday, May 2, 2007, and that following their testimony the Committee decide whether more information is necessary before proceeding with the clause by clause consideration of the Bill.

 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure of the Standing Committee on Health meet in order to determine the number of meetings and the selection of witnesses for the study on the Common Drug Review, as part of the larger study on Prescription Drugs.

 

At 5:34 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
