The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Yasmin Ratansi, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Patricia Davidson, Nicole Demers, Johanne Deschamps, Irene Mathyssen, Hon. Maria Minna, Hon. Anita Neville, Yasmin Ratansi, Joy Smith and Bruce Stanton.

 

Acting Members present: Rick Norlock for Hon. Helena Guergis, Scott Simms for Hon. Belinda Stronach and Lloyd St. Amand for Hon. Belinda Stronach.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant, Analyst; Julie Cool, Analyst; Nathalie Pothier, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: National Alliance of Philippine Women in Canada: Cecilia Diocson, Executive Director. As an individual: Janet Fast, Co-Director, Research on Aging, Policies and Practice Research Program, Department of Human Ecology, University of Alberta. AWIC Community and Social Services: Sheila Konanur, Settlement Counsellor.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, May 30th, 2006, the Committee resumed its study of economic security of women.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:03 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:11 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on November 7, 2006, the Committee resumed its study of the Potential impact of recent funding and program changes at Status of Women Canada.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee append to its report a dissenting opinion from the Conservative Party provided that it is no more than two pages in length and submitted electronically to the Clerk of the Committee, no later than Monday April 23, 2007.

 

It was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and analyst be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair present the report to the House.

 

At 5:59 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
