The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met at 11:10 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Judy Sgro, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Patricia Davidson, Johanne Deschamps, Nina Grewal, Irene Mathyssen, Hon. Maria Minna, Maria Mourani, Hon. Anita Neville, Hon. Judy Sgro, Joy Smith and Bruce Stanton.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett for Hon. Belinda Stronach.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant, Analyst; Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Separated Children Intervention and Orientation Network: Deborah Isaacs, Project Coordinator, Sisters of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd. Coalition Against Trafficking in Women - International: Barbara Kryszko, Coordinator, Action Alert. The Future Group: Benjamin Perrin, Advisor to the Board. Ukrainian Canadian Congress: Irene Sushko, National President.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, September 21st, 2006, the Committee resumed its study of human trafficking.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:40 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:42 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the meeting on December 7, 2006 be from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

 

It was agreed, — That the meeting on December 6, 2006 be from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and the meeting on December 13, 2006 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

 

By unanimous consent, on motion of Maria Mourani, it was agreed, — That the House of Commons Standing Committee on the Status of Women recommend to the government that it develop, in collaboration with the provinces, a comprehensive strategy to combat human trafficking in Canada, and that the adoption of this motion be reported to the House.

 

At 12:59 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
