The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met at 11:08 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Judy Sgro, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Patricia Davidson, Johanne Deschamps, Nina Grewal, Helena Guergis, Irene Mathyssen, Maria Mourani, Hon. Anita Neville, Hon. Judy Sgro, Joy Smith, Bruce Stanton and Hon. Belinda Stronach.

 

Acting Members present: David Sweet for Helena Guergis.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant, Analyst; Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Status of Women Canada: Florence Ievers, Coordinator; Nanci-Jean Waugh, Director General, Governance and Communications Directorate; Jackie Claxton, Director General, Women's Programs and Regional Operations; Hélène Dwyer-Renaud, Director, Gender-Based Analysis and Accountability Directorate and Research Directorate; Guylaine Metayer, Director, Corporate Services. Department of Justice: Carole Morency, Senior Counsel, Criminal Law Policy Section. Department of Foreign Affairs: Adèle Dion, Director General, Human Security and Human Rights.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2006-2007 : Votes 110 and 115 under Canadian Heritage (Status of Women - Office of the Coordinator), referred to the Committee on Tuesday, April 25, 2006.
 

Florence Ievers made a statement and along with Nanci-Jean Waugh, Jackie Claxton and Hélène Dwyer-Renaud, answered questions.

 

Vote 110 under Canadian Heritage, Status of Women, carried.

 

Vote 115 under Canadian Heritage, Status of Women, carried.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair report Votes 110 and 115, under Canadian Heritage, Status of Women, to the House.

 

At 12:02 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:03 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, September 21st, 2006, the Committee resumed its study of human trafficking.
 

Carole Morency and Adèle Dion made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:57 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
