The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met at 11:04 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Judy Sgro, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Patricia Davidson, Nina Grewal, Helena Guergis, Irene Mathyssen, Hon. Maria Minna, Maria Mourani, Hon. Anita Neville, Hon. Judy Sgro, Joy Smith, Bruce Stanton and Hon. Belinda Stronach.

 

Acting Members present: Johanne Deschamps for Diane Bourgeois.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant, Analyst; Julie Cool, Analyst; Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst. Standing Committee on the Status of Women: Michelle Tittley, Clerk of the Committee.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Belinda Stronach moved, — That the Committee focus their studies on the economic security and equality of women in order to prepare a report for the House of Commons by the month of December 2006.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division:YEAS: Irene Mathyssen, Maria Minna, Anita Neville, Belinda Stronach — 4; NAYS: Patricia Davidson, Johanne Deschamps, Nina Grewal, Helena Guergis, Maria Mourani, Joy Smith, Bruce Stanton — 7.

 

Joy Smith moved, — That the Committee focus their studies on human trafficking in order to prepare a report for the House of Commons by December 2006.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Patricia Davidson, Johanne Deschamps, Nina Grewal, Helena Guergis, Maria Mourani, Joy Smith, Bruce Stanton — 7; NAYS: Irene Mathyssen, Maria Minna, Anita Neville, Belinda Stronach — 4.

 

At 12:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
