The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met by teleconference at 9:00 a.m. this day, in Room 371 West Block, the Chair, Bob Mills, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Bernard Bigras, Nathan Cullen, Hon. John Godfrey, Luc Harvey, Marcel Lussier, Bob Mills, Pablo Rodriguez, Francis Scarpaleggia, Mario Silva, Maurice Vellacott, Mark Warawa and Jeff Watson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sam Banks, Analyst; Tim Williams, Analyst. House of Commons: Justin Vaive, Committee Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Carleton University: John Stone, Adjunct Research Professor. Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society: Ian Rutherford, Executive Director. Canadian Chemical Producers' Association: Richard Paton, President and Chief Executive Officer; Gordon Lloyd, Vice-President, Technical Affairs. Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction: Paul Kovacs, Founder and Executive Director. University of Quebec at Chicoutimi: Claude Villeneuve, Biologist.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, October 4, 2006, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-288, An Act to ensure Canada meets its global climate change obligations under the Kyoto Protocol - Urgency to respond to anthropogenic Climate Change.
 

John Stone, Ian Rutherford, Richard Paton, Paul Kovacs and Claude Villeneuve made statements and, with the other witness, answered questions.

 

At 10:59 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
