The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, James Bezan, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: David Anderson, Alex Atamanenko, André Bellavance, James Bezan, Ken Boshcoff, Barry Devolin, Hon. Wayne Easter, Jacques Gourde, Larry Miller and Paul Steckle.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Hedy Fry for Hon. Charles Hubbard, Rick Norlock for Jacques Gourde, Pauline Picard for Roger Gaudet and Todd Norman Russell for Ken Boshcoff.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Principal; Mathieu Frigon, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Au coeur des familles agricoles: Claude Barnabé, President. University of Regina: Annette Aurélie Desmarais, Professor, Department of Justice Studies. Fédération des agricultrices du Québec: Carmen Ducharme, President. National Farmers Union: Grant Robertson, Director, Board of Directors. Manitoba Farm and Rural Stress Line: Janet Smith, Program Manager. BC Grain Producers Association: Jim Smolick, Director. Ontario-Quebec Grain Farmers’ Coalition: William Van Tassel, Vice-President.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of the Agricultural Policy Framework - Impact of Farm Income Crisis.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:30 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:39 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business in camera.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee adopt its budget of $38 100 for its study of the Agricultural Policy Framework.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hold an informal meeting with the delegates attending the Canadian Young Farmers' Forum Annual meeting from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 27, 2007.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair present to the House the report based on the motion of Wayne Easter, with a dissenting opinion on Wednesday, February 28, 2007.

 

At 5:52 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
