The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 11:05 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Colin Mayes, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Steven Blaney, Rod Bruinooge, Jean Crowder, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Marc Lemay, Yvon Lévesque, Colin Mayes, Gary Merasty, Hon. Anita Neville, Todd Norman Russell and Brian Storseth.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley, Analyst; Tonina Simeone, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Statistics Canada: Rosemary Bender, Director General, Social and Demographic Statistics; Marie Patry, Assistant Director, Aboriginal Data, Social and Aboriginal Statistics Division.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on November 7, 2006, the Committee resumed its study on Aboriginal Housing.
 

Rosemary Bender made an opening statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.

 

At 12:01 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:06 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on Post-Secondary Education.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

At 12:35 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:35 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 

On motion of Harold Albrecht, it was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted; that the Chair present the report to the House; that the Chair, Clerk, and Analysts be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report; and that, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

The Chair presented the Fourth Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure which read as follows:

Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure of the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development has the honour to present its FOURTH REPORT

Your Subcommittee met on Monday, February 5, 2007, to consider the business of the Committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:

1. That the study on Housing consist of the planned briefings by departmental officials, and that the briefings take the form of a status report focussing on progress made to date, and relevant future plans.

2. That the Committee undertake a study on child welfare.

On motion of Anita Neville, it was agreed, — That the Fourth report of the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be adopted.
