Meeting No. 3

Wednesday, February 2, 2005

The Subcommittee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities of the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills Development, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 701 La Promenade Building, the Chair, Ken Boshcoff, presiding.

Members of the Subcommittee present: Ken Boshcoff, Peter Julian and Carol Skelton.

Acting Members present: Jean-Claude D'Amours for Ruby Dhalla and Nicole Demers for Robert Vincent.

In attendance: Parliamentary Information and Research Service: Chantal Collin, Analyst ; Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst.

Witnesses: Department of Social Development: Susan Scotti, Assistant Deputy Minister, Income Security Programs; Susan Williams, Director General, Disability Benefits and Appeals; Nancy Lawand, Director, CPP Disability Policy; Cecilia Muir, Director General, Office for Disability Issues; Georges Grujic, Director, Programs.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Subcommittee proceeded to a briefing session on Disability Issues.

Susan Scotti made a statement and, with Georges Gruji, Cecilia Muir, Susan Williams, and Nancy Lawand, answered questions.

At 5:07 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:10 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee invite the co-chairs of the Technical Advisory Committee to appear to discuss their recommendations on February 9, 2005.

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee invite the Ministers of Finance and National Revenue to appear to discuss the findings of the Technical Advisory Committee on February 16, 2005.

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee invite the Minister of Public Works and Government Services and the President of the Treasury Board Secretariat to appear on February 23, 2005, to discuss accessibility standards and policies for the disabled.

At 5:25 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
