The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C Centre Block, the Chair, Pat O'Brien, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Hon. Larry Bagnell, Hon. Bill Blaikie, Rick Casson, Betty Hinton, Hon. Judi Longfield, Dave MacKenzie, Hon. Keith Martin, Pat O'Brien, Gordon O'Connor, Gilles-A. Perron and Anthony Rota.

 

Associate Members present: Cheryl Gallant.

 

In attendance: Parliamentary Information and Research Service: Wolf Koerner, Analyst; Michel Rossignol, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As an Individual: Hon. David Collenette.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Betty Hinton, it was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $ 63,494, to hire a consultant for the period of January 31 to June 30, 2005 be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on October 18, 2004, the Committee resumed its study of the acquisition of submarines by the Canadian Forces.
 

The witness made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 4:50 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:53 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee resumed consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — To withdraw the request for the documents relating to logs and sea trials results before the purchase of the submarines, Royal Navy technical reports on the original sea trials and index of Royal Navy technical reports on the original sea trials.

 

It was agreed, — To request any existing executive summaries of the documents the Committee has requested to be sent to the Committee's researchers as well as a copy of the document in its original language as soon as possible.

 

At 5:55 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
