The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met in camera at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 112-N Centre Block, the Chair, Pat O'Brien, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Hon. Larry Bagnell, Hon. Bill Blaikie, Rick Casson, Betty Hinton, Hon. Judi Longfield, Dave MacKenzie, Keith Martin, Pat O'Brien, Gordon O'Connor and Anthony Rota.

 

Associate Members present: Cheryl Gallant.

 

In attendance: Parliamentary Information and Research Service: Wolf Koerner, Analyst; Michel Rossignol, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, on behalf of the Committee would respond to all correspondence addressed to the Committee, and that the critics of each party on the Committee as well as the Member of Parliament for the riding from which the correspondence was received will be copied on the response.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair would write to the Minister of Veterans Affairs to inquire into the status of a request that was made for a list of all the eligible drugs under Veterans Affairs Canada’s drug plan.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair would write to the Chair of the Board of Internal Economy, copying the office of all the parties’ Whips and the head of the Library of Parliament, with the Committee’s concerns about resources for the work of Committees especially research resources.

 

It was agreed, — That a request for funding, through the appropriate channels, would be made to hire a consultant to assist the Committee with its work from January 31, 2005 until June 30, 2005.

 

It was agreed, — To invite the following witnesses: Professor Martin Shadwick, Professor Peter Langille, Professor Richard Gimblett, Commander (retired) Peter Kavanagh, and Alan Williams ADM (Materiel) to appear before the Committee once the House resumes sitting after the Christmas break.

 

It was agreed, — That the Analysts would provide the Committee with a draft report once the House resumes sitting after the Christmas break.

 

At 4:49 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
