The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 3:37 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Hon. Andrew Telegdi, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Hon. David A. Anderson, Colleen Beaumier, Roger Clavet, Meili Faille, Nina Grewal, Art Hanger, Rahim Jaffer, Bill Siksay, Hon. Andrew Telegdi and Lui Temelkovski.

 

Acting Members present: Jean-Claude D'Amours for Colleen Beaumier and Derek Lee for Hon. Hedy Fry.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Susan Baldwin, Legislative Clerk. Library of Parliament: Benjamin Dolin, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Joseph Volpe, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration.

 

Witnesses: Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Janice Charette, Deputy Minister; John McWhinnie, Assistant Deputy Minister, Centralized Service Delivery and Corporate Services.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Derek Lee moved, — That the decisions made by the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration, on November 1st, 2005, on votes 1a, 5a and 10a of Citizenship and Immigration Canada Supplementary Estimates (A) 2005-2006, be rescinded;

That the order to report those decisions to the House of Commons, be discharged;

And that votes 1a, 5a and 10a of Citizenship and Immigration Canada Supplementary Estimates (A) 2005-2006 be reconsidered by the Committee.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 

On motion of Rahim Jaffer, it was agreed, — The Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, The Honorable Joe Volpe, be invited to return immediately before the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration for more questioning by committee members in order that they may have the benefit of receiving serious and detailed answers to their questions regarding the Supplementary Estimates 2005-2006.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee resumed consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (A) 2005-2006: Votes 1a, 5a and 10a under the Department of Citizenship and Imigration Canada referred to the Committee on Thursday, October 27, 2005.
 

The Minister and witnesses answered questions.

 

Vote 1a under the Department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada carried.

 

Vote 5a under the Department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada carried..

 

Vote 10a under the Department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada carried.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair report Votes numbers 1a, 5a and 10a, under the Department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada to the House.

 

Bill Siksay gave notice of two motions.

 

At 5:21 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
