The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 1:05 p.m. this day, in Room Elfin Pekeha, Delta Prince Edward Hotel, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, the Chair, Andrew Telegdi, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Colleen Beaumier, Helena Guergis, Rahim Jaffer, Bill Siksay, Andrew Telegdi and Lui Temelkovski.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Benjamin Dolin, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Prince Edward Island Association for Newcomers to Canada: Catherine Ronahan, Employment Counsellor; Michelle Jay, Employment Counsellor; Matilde Longaphee, Social Worker, Peru; Kevin J. Arsenault, Executive director. As Individuals: Wimal Rankaduwa, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, University of Prince Edward Island; Gunay Kelly, For United Nations staff member; Edward Guergis; Ron Barrett; Gary Luhowy; Virginia Gundaker.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, October 27, 2004, the Committee resumed its study of Recognition of the International Experience and Credentials of Immigrants.
 

Panel I.

Michelle Jay made a statement and, with Cathy Ronaham and Matilde Longaphee, answered questions.

 

At 1:42 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:44 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, October 27, 2004, the Committee resumed its study of Family Reunification Issues.
 

Panel II.

Kevin J. Arsenault, Wimal Rankaduwa and Gunay Kelly made statements and answered questions.

 

At 2:30 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 2:35 p.m., the sitting resumed.
