The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 9:15 a.m. this day, in the Saanich, Victoria Conference Centre, Victoria, British Columbia, the Chair, Andrew Telegdi, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Hon. David A. Anderson, Colleen Beaumier, Meili Faille, Hon. Hedy Fry, Inky Mark, Bill Siksay, Andrew Telegdi and Lui Temelkovski.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Benjamin Dolin, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria: Mavis DeGirolamo, President. As an Individual: Eswyn Lyster. Qualicum First Nation: Kim Recalma-Clutesi, Chief Councillor; Bill White.

 

The Committee observed a minute of silence in honour of the late Pope John Paul II.

 

Andrew Teledgdi, Diane Ablonczy, Bill Siksay and the Honourable Hedy Fry made statements on the Pope's life.

 

Lui Temelkovski moved, — That the Committee on Citizenship and Immigration travel to Halifax on April 26, 2005, if the Committee is unable to travel to Halifax on April 19, 2005, and that the Committee travel to Quebec City on April 27, 2005, in relation to its current studies.

Debate arose thereon.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, October 27, 2004 the Committee resumed its study on Citizenship Issues.
 

Mavis De Girolamo made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 10:45 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:52 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Eswyn Lyster made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 11:30 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:35 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Kim Recalma-Clutesi made a statement and, with Bill White answered questions.

 

At 12:19 p.m., the Committee adjourned to later this day.
