Meeting No. 3

Tuesday, February 18, 2003

The Subcommittee on National Security of the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 11:06 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Derek Lee, presiding.

Members of the Subcommittee present: Marlene Jennings, Robert Lanctôt, Derek Lee, John McKay, David Pratt and Vic Toews.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Principal.

Witnesses: From the Security Intelligence Review Committee: The Hon. Paule Gauthier, P.C., O.C., Q.C., Chair; The Hon. Raymond Speaker, P.C., O.C., Committee Member; The Hon. Gary Filmon, P.C., O.M., Committee Member; Susan Pollak, Executive Director.

Pursuant to a motion of the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights adopted on Wednesday, November 6, 2002, the Subcommittee commenced consideration of the Annual Report 2001-2002 of the Security Intelligence Review Committee (SIRC).

The Hon. Paule Gauthier made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

It was agreed, - That a letter be sent to the Solicitor General recommending that the vacancies on the Security Intelligence Review Committee be filled as soon as possible.

At 12:44 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
