The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in a televised session at 3:46 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Judi Longfield, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Eugène Bellemare, John Finlay, Tony Ianno, Judi Longfield, Gurbax Malhi, Raymond Simard, Monte Solberg, Diane St-Jacques and Suzanne Tremblay.
Acting Members present: Yvon Godin for Libby Davies.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Chantal Colin, Kevin Kerr and Bill Young, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the Movement for Canadian Literacy: Wendy Desbrisay, Executive Director. From the ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation: Christine A. Featherstone, President. From the "Fédération canadienne pour l'alphabétisation en français": Luce Lapierre, Executive Director. From the "Fondation pour l'alphabétisation": Sophie Labrecque, Chief Executive Officer. From the Frontier College: John Daniel O'Leary, President. From the Laubach Literacy of Canada: Robin Jones, Executive Director. From the National Adult Literacy Database (NALD): Charles Ramsey, Executive Director.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on Literacy.
The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.
At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
