The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 9:29 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D Centre Block, the Chair, Sue Barnes, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sue Barnes, Nick Discepola, Sophia Leung, Shawn Murphy, Pierre Paquette, Monte Solberg and Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: June Dewetering, Principal ; Blayne Haggart, Analyst.

Witnesses: Canadian Institutes of Health Research: Alan Bernstein, President. Child Care Advocacy Association of Canada: Maryann Bird, Executive Director. Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada: Carolyn Brooks, Chair; Sally Brown, Chief Executive Officer. Canadian Foundation for Climate and Atmospheric Sciences: Gordon McBean, Chair, Board of Trustees; Dawn Conway, Executive Director. Credit Union Central of Canada: Joanne De Laurentiis, President and Chief Executive Officer; Jack Smit, Chairperson, Board of Directors. Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of Canada: Ron Forbes, President. Chronic Disease Prevention Alliance of Canada: Bonnie Hostrawser, Executive Director; Christina Mills, Steering Committee Member. Canadian Diabetes Association: Michael Howlett, President & CEO; Donna Lillie, Vice President, Research and Professional Education.

Pursuant to Standing Order 83(1), the Committee resumed its pre-budget consultations.

Panel I: Carolyn Brooks, Christina Mills, Michael Howlett, Gordon McBean and Donna Lillie made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 10:57 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:03 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Panel II: Alan Bernstein, Ron Forbes and Jack Smit made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 12:18 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
