The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 9:30 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Sue Barnes, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Sue Barnes, Scott Brison, Roy Cullen, Nick Discepola, Richard Harris, The Hon. Maria Minna, Shawn Murphy, Gary Pillitteri, Bryon Wilfert.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: June Dewetering, Principal Analyst, Blayne Haggart, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the Canadian Association of Mutual Insurance Companies: Normand Lafrenière, President; Carrol E. Lambert, Chair. From the Canadian Bankers Association: Kelly Shaughnessy, Vice-President, Banking Operations; Peter Currie, Vice Chairman & Chief Financial Officer, RBC Financial Group. From the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association Inc.: Mark R. Daniels, President; James Witol, Vice President, Taxation and Research. From the Certified General Accountants' Association of Canada: Everett E. Colby, Chair, Taxation Policy Committee. From the Insurance Bureau of Canada: Stanley I. Pursuant to Standing Order 83(1), the Committee continued its pre-budget discussions.
Carrol E. Lambert, Normand Lafrenière, Peter Currie, Mark R. Daniels, Everett E. Colby, Stanley I. Griffin, Paul Kovacs, Francesca Iacurto and Ginny Bannerman made statements and with other witnesses answered questions.
At 11:00 a.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 11:15 a.m., the sitting resumed.
At 12:03 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
