Meeting No. 29

Tuesday, April 8, 2003

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Bernard Patry, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Stéphane Bergeron, Murray Calder, Aileen Carroll, Stockwell Day, Hon. Art Eggleton, Francine Lalonde, Hon. Diane Marleau, Keith Martin, Bernard Patry, Karen Redman.

Associate Member present:  Karen Kraft Sloan.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: James Lee and Marcus Pistor, Research Officers.

Witness: From Canada-United States Fulbright Program: Michael Hawes, Executive Director. From the University of Calgary: Annette Hester, Director, Latin American Research Centre.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of a Dialogue on Foreign Policy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs (See Minutes of Proceedings of Thursday, February 11, 2003, Meeting No. 17).

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 9:42 a.m. the Committee proceeded to discuss its future business.

By unanimous consent it was agreed, -- That the Committee hold a working lunch with Mr. Karsten Voight, Coordinator for German-American Cooperation of the German Government, on May 1, 2003.

At 9:44 a.m. the Committee resumed questioning of witnesses.

At 9:50 a.m. the Vice-Chair Hon. Diane Marleau took the chair.

At 10:18 a.m. Bernard Patry took the Chair.

At 10:50 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
