The Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations met at 11:02 a.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Ovid Jackson, presiding.
Member(s) of the Committee present: Reg Alcock, John Cannis, Bev Desjarlais, André Harvey, Ovid Jackson, Mario Laframboise, Ghislain Lebel, Val Meredith, Marcel Proulx, Alex Shepherd, Darrel Stinson.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: John Christopher, Research Officer.
Witness(es): From the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency: Denis Lefebvre, Assistant Commissioner, Customs Branch.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to the consideration of Truckers Hours of Service, safety concerns and transborder/border crossing issues, and their impact on the Canadian trucking industry.
Pursuant to the Forty-eight hours notice motion adopted on Wednesday, February 21, 2001, Ghislain Lebel gave notice of the following motions:
That the Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations invite the Vice-President of Groupaction Marketing, Roger Desjeans, to appear before the committee to speak to us about the documents produced March 14 and sent to Communication Canada and to the opposition parties.
That the Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations invite the Director of Corporate Affairs, Diane Donnelly , to appear before the committee to speak to us about the documents produced March 14 and sent to Communication Canada and to the opposition parties and about her sworn statement of March 18.
That the Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations invite the former official of the Department of Public Works and Government Services, Chuck Guité, to appear before it to inform us about the contracts his department awarded to Groupaction Marketing, the content of the report on the study of ways to increase federal government visibility and the content of the report on the production of a list of 1,300 cultural events.
The witness made a statement and answered questions.
At 12:40 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
