Thursday, November 1st, 2001
The Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations met at 11:04 a.m. this day, in Room 705 La Promenade, the Chair, Ovid Jackson presiding.
Member(s) of the Committee present: Reg Alcock, Gerry Byrne, Bev Desjarlais, André Harvey, Ovid Jackson, Val Meredith, Marcel Proulx, Alex Shepherd, Paul Szabo.
Acting Member(s) present: Gérard Asselin for Mario Laframboise, Rodger Cuzner for Joe Commuzi.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament John Christopher, June Dewetering, Researchers.
Witnesses: From the Union of Canadian Transportation Employees: Michael Wing, National President. From the NAV CANADA: John Crichton, President and CEO; Kathy Fox, Assistant Vice President, Air Traffic Services.
In accordance with its mandate under Standing
Order 108(2) the Committee resumed its study of airline and airport security.
John Crichton and Michael Wing each made a presentation and, with the other witness, answered questions.
At 12:38 p.m. the sitting was suspended.
At 12:41 p.m. the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.
The Committee proceeded to consider its future business.
It was agreed: – That the Committee invite the Minister of Transport to appear on Monday, November 5, 2001.
It was agreed: - That the Committee would hear witnesses on
Bill C-38, An Act to amend the Air Canada Public Participation Act on Tuesday,
November 6, 2001.
At 1:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
