MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 31

Tuesday, October 2, 2001

The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 11:03 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, for the purpose of electing a Chair and two Vice-Chairs, pursuant to Standing Order 106(1) and (2).

Member(s) of the Committee present: Eugène Bellemare, Paul Crête, Dr. Judi Longfield, Joe McGuire, Anita Neville, Joe Peschisolido, Carol Skelton, Larry Spencer, Diane St-Jacques.

Acting Member(s) present: Gerard Binet for Raymonde Folco, Shawn Murphy for Tony Ianno and Murray Calder for Alan Tonks.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Kevin Kerr, Julie Mackenzie and Bill Young, Research Officers.

Pursuant to Standing Order 106(1) and (2), the Clerk presided over the election of the Chair.

On motion of Eugène Bellemare, it was agreed, -- That Judi Longfield be elected Chair of this Committee.

Accordingly, Judi Longfield took the Chair.

On motion of Murray Calder, it was agreed, -- That Diane St-Jacques be elected Government Vice-Chair of the Committee.

On motion of Larry Spencer, it was agreed, -- That Joe Peschisolido be elected Opposition Vice-Chair of the Committee.

Paul Crête moved, -- That the social impacts resulting from the economic slowdown and actions to counter those impacts be considered by the Steering Committee as a priority future study for the Committee.

At 11:08 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
