The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 11:32 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Peter Adams, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Peter Adams, Jeannot Castonguay, Paul Crête, Georges Farrah, Raymonde Folco, Monique Guay, Dale Johnston, Judi Longfield, Joe McGuire, Anita Neville, Carol Skelton, Diane St-Jacques, Greg Thompson, Alan Tonks.

Acting Member(s) present: Yvon Godin for Libby Davies, Steve Mahoney for Tony Ianno and Joe Peschisolido for Val Meredith.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Kevin Kerr, Julie MacKenzie and Bill Young, Research Officers.

Witness(es): From (The) Canadian Chamber of Commerce: Nancy Hughes Anthony, President and Chief Executive Officer; Paul Lalonde, Policy Analyst. From the Building and Construction Trades Department- AFL-CIO: Robert Blakely, Canadian Director; Phil Benson, Assistant to the Director.

The Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-2, An Act to amend the Employment Insurance Act and the Employment Insurance (Fishing) Regulations ( See Minutes of Proceedings, Wednesday, February 21, 2001, Meeting No. 2)

Nancy Hughes Anthony and Robert Blakely made opening statements, and, with other witnesses, answered questions.

At 1:09 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
